Restrictions on In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)
According to the Artificial Reproduction Act, the IVF procedure (artificial reproduction) is restricted to heterosexual couples who are married and whose wives have normal uterine function and are capable of conceiving and delivering a fetus. If a woman has a serious problem with her uterus that prevents her from conceiving, she is not suitable for IVF. Under the current rules, singles and same-sex couples are not eligible for IVF.
In addition to the above, the following assessments and evaluations are required
1. Assessment of the psychological and physical state of the couple
Prior to the IVF procedure, the medical institution will conduct a comprehensive assessment of the couple's psychological and physical condition. This includes not only a physical health check, but also mental health considerations to ensure that the couple is able to cope with stress and support each other during the procedure.
2. Assessment of family history of disease
Doctors will ask about and record the couple's family history of illnesses, including any hereditary diseases in themselves and their blood relatives up to the fourth degree of consanguinity, etc., in order to assess the risk and success rate of the IVF procedure.
3. Genetic/infectious disease assessment
Before undergoing IVF, it is important to confirm that the couple does not suffer from genetic or infectious diseases that affect reproductive health, which may affect the success rate of IVF and even the health of the fetus.
4. Infertility diagnosis
IVF is available to couples who have been trying to conceive naturally for a long period of time without success and have been diagnosed with infertility by a medical institution.
5. Healthy sperm/eggs
The IVF procedure requires that at least one of the couple has healthy reproductive cells (sperm or eggs), meaning that they are not dependent on donor sperm or eggs and are able to use their own cells for fertilization and embryo development.
